InstaÂgram is reportÂedÂly preparÂing to launch a feaÂture that will allow users to pubÂlish long-form video conÂtent.
ExcepÂtionÂalÂly long, in fact, comÂpared to the one-minute long videos that InstaÂgram curÂrentÂly allows.
The Wall Street JourÂnal reports that InstaÂgram may soon allow videos of up to one hour in length. HowÂevÂer, plans are still up in the air at this point.
“The FaceÂbook Inc.-owned phoÂto and video sharÂing app is preparÂing to launch a new feaÂture that will include long-form video, accordÂing to peoÂple familÂiar with the matÂter. The feaÂture, which could allow videos of up to an hour in length, will focus on verÂtiÂcal video, or video that is taller than it is wide, one of the peoÂple said. Until now, InstaÂgram hasn’t allowed users to post any videos longer than one minute.
The peoÂple said the plans are tenÂtaÂtive and subÂject to change.
In recent weeks, InstaÂgram has had conÂverÂsaÂtions with conÂtent creÂators and pubÂlishÂers about proÂducÂing long-form video for the platÂform, a perÂson familÂiar with the matÂter said. The feaÂture, if it launchÂes, will do so withÂin the InstaÂgram app, anothÂer perÂson said.“
The idea of long-form video conÂtent on InstaÂgram isn’t as far-fetched of an idea as it may iniÂtialÂly sound.
Live videos in InstaÂgram stoÂries can curÂrentÂly last up to one-hour in length, and are then availÂable to view for up to 24-hours.
It’s posÂsiÂble that InstaÂgram has gleaned enough data from its live videos which sugÂgest users are interÂestÂed in watchÂing longer conÂtent on the platform.
This would furÂther sepÂaÂrate InstaÂgram from comÂpetiÂtors like Snapchat, which still focusÂes on short-form ephemerÂal content.
